We HAVE HAD AN IDEA

For many years Divertimento Ensemble has followed two guidelines that direct a large part of its choices and activities: attention to young people and training. The tools used to follow these directions are competitions, workshops, master classes and courses for young composers, performers and conductors organized annually.
The inclusion of the best young people in the programming of Rondò, Divertimento Ensemble’s season in Milan, allows the realization of an objective no less important and closely related to these choices: the support of young musicians in the delicate transition that leads from training to professional activity.
All these activities, for Divertimento Ensemble, have long been complementary to performance. To better coordinate them, to facilitate their management, to support new ones, to allow dialogue with European institutions that pursue similar objectives, IDEA – International Divertimento Ensemble Academy was born.
Specifically, IDEA groups and coordinates the training activities already in place, which are divided into two distinct but complementary directions.
On the one hand there are the courses – Course of conducting, Call for Young Performers, International Workshop for Young Composers – intended for conductors and instrumentalists interested in deepening the contemporary language and young composers; on the other hand there are the competitions – International Meetings for Young Composers “Franco Donatoni”, AFAM Composition Competition, On Stage! – intended to bring to light young composers, but also performance projects that have the character of originality and great innovation.
And then there is a special project, the Composer in residence, which every year offers a young composer – whose music is already known and partly performed by the Ensemble, or who has not yet come into contact with the Ensemble, but has aroused its interest – the opportunity for a recurring presence in the billboard of Rondò and the recording of a CD.
In addition to all this, IDEA will plan new activities, still aimed at young people, starting with master classes that will see the guest composers of Rondò as teachers.
